Met Office Issues Yellow Thunderstorm Warnings for Northern England, Eastern Scotland
The Met Office has issued a series of yellow thunderstorm warnings covering swathes of the UK, commencing later today. Northern England, eastern Scotland, and Northern Ireland are all subject to the advisory, which forecasts heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and the possibility of flash flooding.
Forecasters indicate that the weather system could bring up to 30mm of rain within an hour in some localised areas, potentially reaching 50mm over a two to three-hour period. Such intense downpours elevate the risk of significant surface water accumulation and disruption to infrastructure.
The warnings also highlight the potential for power cuts and difficult driving conditions due to sudden, heavy rain and standing water on roads. Public transport, particularly rail services, could face delays or cancellations as a direct result of the adverse weather. The public is advised to consider preparations for possible disruption.
