Northumbria Police Document Gang Feud Resolution After Six Months, 84 Incidents
A protracted gang dispute across Newcastle and Gateshead, characterised by 84 separate incidents over six months, has concluded, according to Northumbria Police. Chief Constable Jo Farrell detailed that the “resolution of differences” between the rival factions was achieved through a combination of law enforcement actions and direct engagement.
Police recorded a total of 84 incidents linked to the feud between April and September of the preceding year. These incidents spanned a range of offences, including arson, assaults, and criminal damage, profoundly impacting the local communities in areas such as Fenham and Benwell in Newcastle, and Felling in Gateshead.
Ms Farrell explained that the extensive police response, which included numerous arrests and charges, played a significant role. Furthermore, she highlighted that the gangs themselves opted to end their conflict, facilitated by interventions that addressed underlying issues. The police service’s strategy involved not only enforcement but also a multi-agency approach, although specific details of the non-enforcement interventions remain limited.
This resolution brings an end to a period of heightened criminal activity that necessitated substantial police resources and created considerable unease among residents in the affected regions.
