Norway's Princess Astrid Dies Aged 92, Two Days After King Harald's Funeral

Princess Astrid, the sister of Norway's King Harald V, has died at the age of 92, the Royal Court announced. Her passing occurred on Saturday, just two days after she attended the state funeral of her brother, King Harald V, who reigned for 33 years.

King Haakon VIII, Princess Astrid's nephew and the new monarch, issued a statement commemorating his aunt. He noted that Princess Astrid “represented the Royal House in a warm and dutiful manner”.

Born in February 1932, Princess Astrid was the second child of King Olav V and Princess Märtha. She married Johan Martin Ferner in 1961, who passed away in 2015. Throughout her life, Princess Astrid undertook various official engagements and represented the Norwegian Royal Family at numerous events both domestically and internationally. Her consistent presence in royal duties provided a degree of continuity during significant transitions within the Norwegian monarchy.
