Partner of US Influencer Ashly Robinson Questioned in Zanzibar Death Inquiry
Investigation Underway in Zanzibar
Zanzibar police are currently questioning Joe McCann, 45, the partner of deceased US influencer Ashly Robinson, 31, who passed away last week during their holiday on the Tanzanian islands. Mr McCann's passport has been withheld, though police have indicated he is assisting as a witness and is not presently suspected of any wrongdoing.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Ms Robinson's death are ongoing, with authorities awaiting an official medical examination report. Ms Robinson, known online as Ashlee Jenae, was reportedly found unconscious in her villa and subsequently died in hospital.
Family Seeks Clarity
Ms Robinson's parents have expressed profound confusion over their daughter's sudden death, stating that it "doesn't make any sense." They are actively seeking answers and co-operating with authorities. The family noted they were informed of the incident by Mr McCann eleven hours after it occurred, with limited detail, before being notified of her death by the hotel.
Local police had previously suggested that Ms Robinson may have attempted to take her own life, a detail that has not been publicly addressed by Mr McCann. The couple were reportedly separated into different rooms by hotel management following a misunderstanding. The hotel, Zuri Zanzibar, has confirmed its deep sadness over the "tragic incident" and its full co-operation with authorities and the US embassy, but declined further comment citing privacy and the integrity of the investigation.
The US State Department has confirmed the death of an American citizen in Zanzibar and is offering condolences, reiterating its commitment to the safety of US nationals abroad.
