Russian Missile Barrage Kills Six in Kyiv, Sixteen in Dnipro, Targets Ukrainian Civilian Sites
A recent Russian missile and drone barrage across Ukraine inflicted significant civilian casualties and extensive damage, with Kyiv and Dnipro bearing the brunt of the assault. At least six individuals died in Kyiv, and 16 more were killed in Dnipro when residential buildings were struck. Over 90 people sustained injuries in these two cities.
Widespread Civilian Harm Reported
Kharkiv, in the north-east, also experienced missile strikes, with ten people, including a child, reportedly injured. The attacks targeted energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure in the region. Other areas across the country were additionally affected.
In Kyiv's Vynohradar neighbourhood, apartment blocks suffered smashed windows, and numerous vehicles were incinerated. Locals reported multiple large explosions, with several residents hospitalised for severe injuries. One resident, Anna, described her destroyed car and expressed profound grief, stating, "They'll fix the building, but not our souls. The whole of the building, the whole of Ukraine is in grief. What have we done to deserve this?"
Aftermath and Resilience Amidst Attacks
Following the attacks, emergency services, government psychologists, and volunteers mobilised to assist survivors. Police cordoned off areas where glass shards continued to fall from damaged high-rises. Neighbourhood children were observed helping municipal workers clear rubble from a children's activity centre, its painted purple butterflies still visible on the shattered remains.
Despite the devastation, parts of Kyiv quickly resumed daily routines. Road workers laid new tarmac, and public transport continued to operate, reflecting the city's approach to enduring the ongoing conflict.
