South African TV Presenter Molemo Maarohanye Arrested on Kidnapping and Firearm Charges
South African television presenter and rapper Molemo Maarohanye, publicly known as Jub Jub, has been arrested following allegations of kidnapping a taxi driver and firing a weapon. The incident reportedly occurred in Edenvale, approximately 25 kilometres from Johannesburg.
Police state that Maarohanye allegedly confronted the driver on Sunday, accusing him of a relationship with his girlfriend. The musician is then said to have forced the unnamed driver into his vehicle and discharged a firearm in the driver's direction.
The driver, who was unharmed, subsequently escaped and reported the incident to a nearby police station. Maarohanye has not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations.
The alleged confrontation took place at 07:30 local time (05:30 GMT) after the driver had dropped off a passenger. Maarohanye is scheduled to appear in Germiston Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing.
This is not Maarohanye's first encounter with the criminal justice system. In 2012, he was convicted of manslaughter after a drag-racing incident resulted in the deaths of four schoolchildren and injuries to two others. In 2023, he was also arrested on charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault, though these charges were withdrawn in 2024 by the National Prosecuting Authority due to insufficient prospects of a successful prosecution. Maarohanye currently hosts the reality television programme Uyajola 9/9, which focuses on exposing infidelity.
