Tory Deputy Bughart Reaffirms Commitment to State Pension Triple Lock
Alex Bughart, Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party, has confirmed the government's continued commitment to the state pension triple lock. Speaking on Sunday, Bughart stressed the necessity of the policy due to the unique financial position of pensioners.
He described older people as a "special case", explaining that unlike other demographics, pensioners typically lack avenues to enhance their earnings. This rationale underpins the Tories' pledge to uphold the triple lock, which guarantees that the state pension increases each year by the highest of inflation, average earnings growth, or 2.5%.
The declaration comes as the Conservative Party prepares its agenda, with the triple lock remaining a central tenet of its offering to older voters. Bughart's comments aim to reassure this demographic of the party's ongoing support for their financial security.
