Wimbledon School Crash: Driver Claire Freemantle Trial Scheduled for 2027
Claire Freemantle, 46, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link on Friday, where a provisional trial date was set for January 2027. Ms Freemantle faces charges of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The charges stem from a collision at the Study Preparatory School for Girls in Wimbledon on 6 July 2023. Ms Freemantle was reportedly driving a Land Rover Defender when it crashed through a fence and into a building at the school. Eight-year-olds Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau died as a result of the incident.
A 47-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl sustained serious injuries in the crash. Ms Freemantle, from Wimbledon, was granted bail ahead of her next court appearance. The legal process continues more than three years after the fatal event that claimed the lives of the two schoolchildren.
