
A66 Collision Kills Two Police Officers and Five Young People
Two police constables, Matthew Blades and Tom Clough, were killed when their vehicle was struck by a car travelling in the wrong direction on the A66 motorway. The collision also resulted in the deaths of five young people in the other vehicle involved.
The incident has been described as an 'unimaginable loss' by authorities. Investigations into the precise circumstances leading to the wrong-way driving and the subsequent fatal collision are currently underway. The A66 was closed for several hours following the incident to allow for accident investigation and recovery operations.
