
Andrew Sub-let Royal Lodge Cottages for Undisclosed Income, National Audit Office Finds
A recent report by the National Audit Office (NAO), the first in two decades on royal residences, has brought to light details regarding property arrangements within the Royal Household. It confirms that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor generated an undisclosed income by sub-letting three cottages on the Royal Lodge estate, which he leases from the Crown Estate.
Furthermore, the NAO report states that King Charles III is responsible for the rent of accommodation in Kensington Palace for Princess Eugenie and in St James’s Palace for Princess Beatrice. Both princesses are not considered working royals and do not pay rent themselves; instead, their accommodation costs are covered by the 'privy purse', the monarch's personal funds, paid to the Royal Household. These palaces are publicly maintained through the Sovereign Grant.
