Anthropic Addresses Claude Code Usage Limit Concerns
Anthropic, the developer of the AI coding tool Claude Code, has acknowledged and is actively working to resolve an issue causing users to hit their usage limits unexpectedly quickly. This problem is particularly disruptive for software developers who integrate Claude Code into their daily workflow.
The company announced on Reddit that investigating the accelerated token consumption is a "top priority." Users purchase tokens to utilise AI services, but the exact token cost for various tasks can often be unclear. Several users have reported disproportionate token usage, with some experiencing their daily allowance being depleted in minutes, even for seemingly minor interactions.
One user highlighted that their paid account, costing £75 per month, was reaching limits faster than their free account. Another noted a single-sentence reply consuming nearly half of their daily usage. This issue follows Anthropic's recent introduction of peak-hour throttling, which increases token consumption during periods of high demand.
This problem is compounded by a recent accidental release of part of Claude Code's internal source code on GitHub. Anthropic attributed this to "human error" and confirmed that no sensitive customer data was exposed. The company is currently engaged in a legal dispute with the US government regarding the use of its tools by the Department of Defence.
