Crime Boss Steven Lyons Deported to Amsterdam Following Bali Arrest
Steven Lyons, 45, a high-profile figure in Scottish organised crime, was deported to Amsterdam on Tuesday, ten days after his apprehension in Bali. Officers from Spain's Guardia Civil escorted Lyons onto a flight from Jakarta, which landed at Schiphol shortly after 10:30 BST.
Lyons was initially taken into custody on 28th March upon his arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport from Singapore. His arrest coincided with that of his wife, Amanda, in Dubai. The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office officially confirmed Lyons' transfer from Denpasar to Jakarta before his onward flight, describing him as a "mafia boss and Interpol fugitive."
Bugie Kurniawan, head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, stated, "This deportation is a concrete step in our commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty. We will not allow Indonesian territory, especially Bali, to become a haven or base of operations for international criminals." Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya previously alleged Lyons leads "a large-scale transnational criminal organisation engaged in drug trafficking and money laundering."
Transnational Criminal Allegations
Untung Widyatmoko, secretary of Interpol's Indonesia bureau, indicated Lyons' criminal group operates across Spain, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Turkey. Both Steven and Amanda Lyons are wanted by authorities in Spain, having previously resided there before relocating to Dubai. Their arrests followed a joint Scottish-Spanish operation targeting alleged members of the Lyons crime group through simultaneous raids across Scotland, Barcelona, and Malaga.
Steven Lyons is understood to be the head of the Lyons clan, embroiled in a protracted feud with the rival Daniel group for over two decades. Police Scotland has acknowledged Lyons' arrest and is working with European partners. Lyons, who survived a 2006 shooting in Glasgow, reportedly forged alliances with the Dubai-based Kinahan crime group while living on the Costa del Sol.
