Henry Nowak Handcuffed by Police While Dying After Stabbing, Killer Made False Racism Claim
Newly released police body camera footage shows officers from Thames Valley Police handcuffing Henry Nowak, a 17-year-old student, as he lay dying from multiple stab wounds. The incident occurred in Slough, Berkshire, after Nowak was attacked by Vickrum Digwa.
Digwa, 19, had falsely informed emergency services that Nowak had racially abused him, a claim which prompted police to restrain the critically injured teenager. Despite Nowak repeatedly telling officers “I can’t breathe” and pleading for help, the handcuffs remained in place. Paramedics later removed them at the scene.
Vickrum Digwa was subsequently convicted of Nowak’s murder. The Attorney General’s office is currently reviewing Digwa’s 20-year prison sentence following an appeal that described it as unduly lenient. The footage underscores the critical failures in immediate response to a life-threatening injury, exacerbated by a fabricated accusation.
