King Charles III Observes Red Arrows Flypast from Buckingham Palace Balcony at Trooping the Colour
King Charles III and Queen Camilla, alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, observed a Red Arrows flypast from the Buckingham Palace balcony, marking the culmination of the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
The event, celebrating the King's official birthday, involved more than 1,400 members of the armed forces, 200 horses, and 400 musicians. The King, dressed in a Grenadier Guards uniform, travelled in an open-top carriage down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, where he conducted an inspection of the troops.
Anti-monarchy demonstrators from the Republic campaign group staged protests along The Mall, shouting slogans such as "Down with the Crown" as the royal procession passed. A dozen protesters later positioned themselves in front of the palace balcony, displaying umbrellas with the phrase "Stop the Reign," before being moved back by police.
The Red Arrows performed in a nine-aircraft formation, a configuration reserved for specific events to preserve the ageing fleet. This will be reduced to seven aircraft after a July performance marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The parade also paid tribute to Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan, who died in May after a fall during the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
