London Waste Recycling Centre Engulfed by Fire, One Hundred Firefighters Respond
A large-scale fire is currently affecting a waste recycling centre in Southwark, London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has mobilised 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters to tackle the incident on Landman Way.
Emergency services were called shortly after 11:30 BST to reports of a blaze within a single-storey waste transfer building. Fire crews from stations including Dockhead, Old Kent Road, and Lambeth are working to bring the situation under control. The LFB confirmed that a considerable volume of waste materials is alight.
Station Commander Chris Walsh, who is at the scene, stated that firefighters are utilising a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower to douse the flames from above. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations will commence once the incident is fully mitigated. There have been no immediate reports of casualties.
