Shein Targets £27 Billion Valuation for London Stock Exchange Listing
Fast fashion giant Shein is preparing for a London stock market debut on 1 September, with reports indicating a target valuation of close to £27 billion. This valuation marks a substantial reduction from the £100 billion achieved during a private fundraising round in 2022. The company, which sells clothing and accessories online, had previously explored a listing in New York, but faced political and regulatory hurdles.
The move to London underscores a strategic pivot for Shein, as scrutiny intensifies regarding its supply chain and labour practices. Questions have persisted over working conditions within its manufacturing base, issues often downplayed by corporate statements but highlighted by human rights organisations.
Shein's aggressive pricing model and rapid production cycles have positioned it as a dominant force in online retail. The decision to pursue a London listing reflects the company's ambition for global expansion, alongside the UK government's interest in attracting major international companies to bolster the City's financial standing, despite ongoing concerns surrounding corporate governance and ethical sourcing within the fast fashion sector.
