Swedish Armed Forces Seek Seizure of Russian-Owned Muskö Estate Over Drone Activity

The Swedish Armed Forces have initiated proceedings to seize a property near the Muskö Naval Base, currently owned by a Russian national. The military's formal request to the Ministry of Defence highlights a perceived national security threat, specifically referencing repeated drone incursions over the strategically important facility.

Muskö Naval Base, situated in the Stockholm archipelago, houses significant underground installations, including docks and tunnels capable of accommodating warships. It serves as a crucial hub for the Swedish Navy and submarine fleet. The expropriation request alleges that the property has been utilised for activities detrimental to Swedish security interests, implying a direct link between the Russian ownership and the observed drone surveillance.

The individual owner, whose identity remains undisclosed in the official request, acquired the property in 2014. Since then, Swedish defence intelligence has reportedly monitored unusual drone flights and other suspicious activities in the vicinity of the base. The Swedish government is now evaluating the military's demand, a move indicative of a broader, cynical approach to perceived external threats and the protection of client state infrastructure.
