Liverpool Takeaway Director Arrested Over Alleged Illegal Entry into US
Mohammed Sultan Saleh, 22, from Liverpool, a director of the now-closed Toxteth takeaway Shuga Shuga, is currently in custody in Maine, USA. He and three other British nationals, also reportedly from Liverpool, were charged with unlawful entry on 3 April, following allegations of illegally crossing the border from Canada into the United States.
Court Appearance and Official Confirmation
Saleh and the three other men appeared in court, where they entered pleas of not guilty to the charge of unlawfully entering the US at a non-designated port of entry. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has confirmed it is “supporting four British men” arrested in the US and is in contact with local authorities regarding the matter.
Saleh’s family reportedly became aware of his arrest after contacting the British Embassy, prompted by media reports concerning his detention. The Department of Homeland Security and US Customs and Border Protection have been approached for further comment on the incident.
