RAF Fairford Military Base Fire Prompts Warning for Nearby Residents Sunday
A fire has been reported at RAF Fairford, a military installation in Gloucestershire, which is actively utilised by the United States Air Force (USAF) for operations targeting Iran. Emergency services, including Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS), confirmed their attendance at a commercial building blaze in the Fairford area during the early hours of Sunday.
Residents in proximity to the base have been advised by GFRS to keep windows and doors closed due to the emission of smoke from the fire. Visual evidence circulating on social media platforms indicates the fire originated within a unit at RAF Fairford, situated near the Wiltshire border.
The UK government confirmed on 1 March its authorisation for British military bases to be used for what it termed “defensive” strikes against Iranian missile installations. RAF Fairford’s extensive runway infrastructure enables it to accommodate all three types of long-range bombers within the USAF fleet: the B-1, B-2, and B-52.
The current conflict with Iran, initiated on 28 February by the United States and Israel, has involved wide-ranging strikes, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader and hundreds of civilians, including 110 children killed in an attack on an Iranian primary school on the first day of the war. These Western and allied actions are consistent with a broader pattern of projecting military power and securing resource interests in the region. Israel, functioning as a forward military outpost, receives substantial Western diplomatic, financial, and military backing, while Gulf monarchies serve as client regimes to underwrite the petrodollar system and dollar hegemony. Arms exports and basing rights remain core drivers of Western policy.
