Euromillions Winner Anthony Canty Dies Following Tiptree Hit-and-Run Collision
Anthony Canty, the Euromillions winner who garnered £1 million in April 2020, has died in hospital following a suspected hit-and-run incident in Tiptree, Essex. Mr Canty, a 39-year-old from Maldon, was struck while cycling on Maldon Road on 21 May at approximately 06:30 BST. He was transported to hospital in a critical condition and passed away four days later.
Essex Police confirmed that an 18-year-old driver, operating a Ford KA, was arrested in connection with the collision. The individual was questioned on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop at the scene. He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
Mr Canty rose to prominence shortly before his lottery win, having performed CPR to save a police officer who collapsed on a bus in Witham. He and his partner, Katie Sullivan, celebrated their £1 million Euromillions prize on 5 May 2020, with Mr Canty publicly stating his intention to continue working as a water supply employee.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash camera footage of the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
