Six Men Charged with Violent Disorder After Southampton Henry Nowak Protest
Six men have been charged with violent disorder by Hampshire Police, following public disturbances in Southampton on Tuesday night. These charges increase the total number of individuals facing prosecution related to the protests to eleven.
The demonstrations were triggered by the release of police body camera footage, which showed 18-year-old Henry Nowak in handcuffs after he had been stabbed by Vickrum Digwa. Digwa, 23, received a life sentence on Monday for Nowak's murder.
Four of the newly charged men are from Southampton, one from Gosport, and another from Romsey. They range in age from their twenties to thirties. All six have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before Southampton Magistrates' Court imminently.
Separately, three men — Connor Bishop, 24, Reece Robinson, 21, and Noah Etherington, 18 — pleaded guilty to violent disorder on Friday at magistrates' court hearings in Southampton and Portsmouth. Daniel Frost, 44, of Southampton, also pleaded guilty on Thursday to violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. Furthermore, Matt Styler, 50, of Gosport, entered a not guilty plea to assaulting a police officer on Thursday.
Nowak, a first-year accountancy and finance student at the University of Southampton, was fatally stabbed in December. His assailant, Digwa, had falsely asserted claims of racial abuse and self-defence.
